No. 263: Resthaven
Postcard #263

Postcard. Caption on front: Resthaven, Dorchester, Mass. Postally unused.

Resthaven stood on Washington Street, between Tremlett Street and Melville Avenue, now the site of the Dorchester District Court (notice the granite wall in front that still survives). On the left of Resthaven was the Reed House, moved to Melville Avenue, to the left of the T line and still standing, and on the right was the Bull House, moved to 6 Parkman Street. In the 1923-25 period, Resthaven was demolished to make way for the Dorchester District Court, designed by the Boston architectural firm of Holmes & Edwards. See p. 16 of Dorchester Then & Now.
