Port Norfolk was home to many commercial and industrial businesses. In the early 20th century, the Lawley Shipyard operated there. In the 19th century, the Putnam Nail Company was on the same spot. Today Thomas Marine has the Port. Other businesses operated around the side of the peninsula such as the A.T. Stearns Lumber Company and the Frost Coal Company.
