No. 582: Pierce Mill, Baker Chocolate
Postcard #582

Postcard. Caption on front: Pierce Mill, Dorchester, Mass. Postmarked Jul 10, 1911 Dorchester Center Station. With one-cent stamp. On verso: Hand colored. Published by Putnam Art Co., Dorchester, Mass.

The Pierce Mill is on the left, and the Bispham Building is on the right edge. The 1889 map indicates that the building to the left of the Bispham Building was owned by T.R. Collins et al. The 1884 Bromley map indicates the owners were the heirs of H. Wendemuth. The buildings at the right were demolished at a later date, and the administration building of the Walter Baker Chocolate Company was erected on this site in 1919.
Map: Scan from 1918 Bromley Atlas, plate 35.
Modern image: Digital photograph of Pierce Mill, March 2003.
