No. 2: Taylor House
Postcard #2

Photograph of Taylor House, Dudley Street. "It was in this house that Sarah Wentworth Apthorp, better known as Mrs. Perez Morton, composed the first American novel." Published in Official Program, Dorchester Day, Saturday, June 7th, 1913.

We now know that Sarah Morton was not the author of this book, although she was an accomplished poet. The house, which stood at the corner of Dudley and Burgess Streets, was also known as the Morton-Taylor house, named for the Mortons, the original owners, and Taylor, a later owner.
