Dorchester Historical Society Installs New Exterior Lights at Blake House
In 2006-2007 the Dorchester Historical Society restored the exterior of the James Blake House to its appearance from 1895. The Secretary of Interior Standards require a restoration to a known appearance if possible. Modern times demand modern conveniences, so there was some concern about the style of lighting fixture, since there was no electric lighting at the Blake House in 1895. In consultation with the Boston Landmarks Commission, the Society chose a fixture of the Arts & Crafts style, since the 1895 restoration is most closely related to that style.
