A quarterly magazine covering hip-hop and other pop culture with the aim of presenting a true voice for independent artists just starting out and something that mainstream hip-hop listeners can appreciate.
The founders of T.R.U.E., Sky Darling, Gina Brooks and Nikia Manifold, grew up in Roxbury but publish their magazine from an apartment in the Fields Corner section of Dorchester.
By August 2005, the distribution of the magazine grew to 50,000 copies. The founders had begun to publish only three years earlier. In 2004 they found an investor who helped to shape the magazine into a larger, glossy format.
Although these women are not entertainers, the entertainers category seemed best suited for an entry related to covering that industry.
