Popular tobacco and newspaper establishment, 2275 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester

The Car-Barn Cigar store, at No. 2271 Dorchester Avenue, opposite the car-barn, Dorchester, is one of the most popular and liberally patronized places of its kind in the district, and everybody in that locality knows it and all about it.  It was established in 1898, under the charge of C. W. Chipman, its pres­ent manager. The store is comfortable to trade in and is well stocked with a choice selection of goods, including a full line of all of the popular brands of imported and domestic cigars, tobaccos, cigarettes, pipes, pouches, matchboxes, and other articles for smokers’ use and comfort; all of the leading daily and weekly papers, periodicals, and stationery.  A long-distance telephone public pay station is also located in the store for the convenience of its patrons. The establishment has proved to be one of the most popular of the mercantile houses in the locality and is patronized by people of all classes in the neighborhood. The prices which rule in this store are moderate and satisfactory to the people who trade there.

Mr. Chipman, the manager, was born and educated in Boston and has lived in the Dorchester district for many years. He is one of the most popular merchants in that part of the district and has the good will of all who know him. He is respected for his honesty and strict integrity in all of his business dealings and is esteemed by all citizens of the community for his sterling qualities as a man.
