Walter Baker & Co., Baker’s Chocolate and Cocoa

John Hannon began manufacturing chocolate in Lower Mills in 1765. In 1780 Dr. James Baker purchased Hannon’s interest and established the Baker Chocolate Company, later to be named Walter Baker and Company. The firm was owned and managed by Baker family descendants until the late nineteenth century, when it was syndicated.
