J.B. Cole & Son

Undertakers and embalmers, 560 Columbia Road, Upham’s Corner—C. F. Brown is proprietor

This business enterprise, the oldest of its kind at Upham’s Corner, was founded some twenty-four years ago, and as the gentlemen who have been identified with it have been widely and favorably known throughout Dorchester and south Boston, where the business originated, the establishment has held high rank among other houses in the same line of business and is fairly entitled to be classed among the representative business concerns of Dorchester.

The business was established by J. B. Cole at South Boston in 1883.  The Dorchester branch was opened at Upham’s Corner in 1889, at which time H. H. Cole was admitted to the business, and the firm name became J. B. Cole & Son.  They continued the business together until the death of the father in 1897, after which C. F. Brown was admitted as a partner, and the business continued under the old firm name as it stand today.  H. H. Cole died a few years ago, and C. F. Brown is now the sole proprietor.

The Dorchester establishment at 560 Columbia Road. is tastefully and pleasantly fitted up with reception room, office and large wareroom. All the necessary facilities are provided for carrying on the undertaking and embalming business in accordance with the most approved methods. A large and carefully chosen stock of caskets, coffins, robes and funeral goods is carried. The entire charge of funerals is undertaken, and we need hardly say that they are conducted in a delicate manner and in every way satisfactory to all interested parties,.

The late J. B. Cole was well known to the community, particularly in South Boston, where lie made his home and where he had many warm friends, who esteemed him highly.

His son, H. H. Colee, Inter at the head of the business, was, perhaps, better known in Dorchester than was his father, though he had a wide circle of friends in both Dorchester and South Boston.

C,F. Brown was formerly in the undertaking business at Burlington, Vt., where he held a prominent position is his profession. Since coming to Dorchester, he has made hosts of friends, and today, he is one of the most respected and prominent businessmen in this locality. His business has grown to very large proportion, and he has established an enviable reputation.
