Dorchester Stable Company

High-class livery and boarding establishment, 637 Washington Street, Dorchester

Something out of the ordinary in the way of high class livery establishments made its appearance in Dorchester four years ago, when the Dorchester Stable Company opened its place at No. 637 Washington Street, Dorchester.  This business is owned and conducted by Killy E. Terry.  The building is a two-story, frame structure, 75 by 100 feet in dimensions.  The ground floor is devoted to the care of the horses kept there, there being accommodations for seventy-two animals.  The second floor is reached by means of an elevator and there the stock of vehicles is kept, there being sufficient room for the storage of 200 carriages, hacks, etc.  There are also horse shoeing, painting and harness departments connected with the plant, thus making it one of the complete in the district.  Mr. Terry conducts a hack, boarding and livery business and also buys, sells and exchanges horses.  The stock of horses kept there for livery purposes includes a large number of the handsomest animals ever seen in Dorchester and are ideal for riding or driving.  They are all sleek, well-fed and well-groomed beasts and are models of t fine horse flesh in every way.  The stable also has a large variety of stylish vehicles for the use of its patrons, and these carriages are always kept in the pink of condition, with their paint shiny and their upholstery in perfect repair.  No shabby look turnout ever leaves the Dorchester Stable Company’s building.  A drive behind one of the Terry high steppers in one of the fashionable carriages there is an occasion long to be recalled with pleasure.

Mr. Terry came to Dorchester from the South.  He is a member of the Dorchester Gentlemen’s Driving Club and is popular in all circles in which he moves.
