L A. Gilman & Co., dry and fancy goods, 2269 Dorchester Avenue
Dealers in Dry and Fancy Goods, 2269 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester.
The house of L. A. Gilman & Co., dealers in dry and fancy goods, at 2269 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, was established four years ago by that firm. The firm is composed of Lawrence and Herbert L. Gilman. The store is large and in every way attractive, with a comprehensive stock of goods, including dry and fancy goods, dress goods, white goods, men’s and women’s furnishing goods, notions, small wares, hosiery, corsets, gloves, ribbons, laces, articles of infants’ wear of which the firm makes a notable specialty, and other innumerable things which belong to the dry goods business. The service which the proprietors of the store furnish their patrons is all that could be desired, while the goods are high in quality and small in prices. Careful housewives find this establishment one of their favorites shopping places, for they are sure of getting bargains there every day. The store grows more popular as the years pass, and the volume of its business increases steadily as time goes on.
Both members of the firm were born in Lewiston, Maine, and both were educated in Malden. They have been residents of Dorchester for many years. Both are reckoned as among the leading citizens of that part of the district and are popular among their friends. They are highly respected as representatives of the mercantile interests of the community or their integrity and honesty, and are esteemed as private individuals for their irreproachable characters.
