John Gustafson

Proprietor of a polar bakery, 1197 Washington Street, Dorchester

For a long time the residents of its neighborhood have learned to depend largely upon the bakery new conducted .John Gustafson, at No. 1197 Washington Street, Dorchester. This establishment had been in existence for many years, when it was purchased by T. H. Best and was sold to Charles Aray in 1898. Aray continued it for nine years and then disposed of his interest to Mr. Gustafson in May. 1907.  The place has improved greatly under its present management and is more popular than ever in the locality. The premises consist of a salesroom and bakeshop,  baking being done in the basement,. Mr. Gustafson makes use of only the highest grade of ingredients in preparing his articles for the ovens, and. after they have gone through the process o scientific bakin in the ovens are taken out to be sold, they represent the highest accomplishment in the line of modern bakery products.  All kinds of breads, cakes, pies. cookies, doughnuts, rolls, etc., are made here and sold over the couner in the store to customers who live in the locality, no attempt being made to dispose of it to the outside dealers or the trade generally.

Although Mr. Gustafson has been a resident of the locality only a short time, he is very much liked by the members of the community, who admire the skill he displays in his chosen line of work and appreciate the courtesy and consideration with which he treats them when they cross his threshold. ‘They hope the bakery will not change hands again for a long time.
