Skilful Carriage Repairing Firm, Columbia Road and Hamlet Street, Dorchester

J (Joseph) L. Ruel & Co., carriage repairers, at Columbia Road and Hamlet Street, Upham’s Corner, Dorchester, was organ­ized seven years ago in South Boston. In August, 1907, the firm came to Dor­chester as successor to the Columbia Road Carriage company. The concern occupies a building three stories in height and 50 by 75 feet in dimensions. The ground floor is occupied by the blacksmithing and wheelwright depart­ment, the second floor by the trimming department, and the third floor by the painting and finishing departments. The firm makes a specialty of make-over work on fine carriages and coaches and automobiles, and does some of the finest work in its line ever seen in this region. All kinds of repairing of street vehicles are done in the most scientific and thorough manner, and satisfaction is guaranteed. A force of front twelve to fifteen men is constantly employed, and all are kept busy from morning until evening with the rush of work which pours into the shop from all parts of this region, the fame of the firm being widespread.

Ruel was born in Canada and has made his home in the United States for the last forty years. Ile has been en­gaged at his trade for tile long period of thirty-five years and is a master of all of its details.
