Snow Brothers
Well-known Proprietors of Model Grocery Stores in Dorchester and Dedham
The firm of Snow Brothers, well-known and popular grocers, needs no introduction to the people of this district, where they have lived and served the public faithfully for many years. The firm is composed of Shepard W. Snow and Edmund F. Snow and was organized twenty-nine years ago in the city proper, where they opened a store at the corner of south and Beacon streets, which they operated most successfully for six years. At the expiration of that period, twenty-three years ago, the brothers removed their interests to Dorchester and have remained here since then. The first Dorchester store of the firm was located at Harrison Hall at Harrison Square; later removed to corner Park and Adams streets, thence to Grand Army Hall, then to its present location. Ten years ago, the present store at No. 291 Adams Street, was taken possession of and is now the main headquarters of a business which is distributed through to additional stores, one in Dorchester and the other in Dedham. The other Dorchester establishment is situated at Norfolk and Edson streets and was opened 12 years ago in order to better attend to their customers living in that part of the district. The Dedham store, at No. 361 High Street, that city, was put into operation seventeen years ago. All of the three stores are elegantly fitted up in cherry wood and all contain a generous and diversified stock of staple and fancy groceries of every description and of the highest grade. In addition to its stock of groceries, the Norfolk Street store carries a fine line of meats and provisions. Elliot’s flour takes the lead in family flour and is recommended to patrons in each of the three establishments. While the quality of every article sold by the Snow Brothers is fully guaranteed. and nothing of an inferior nature is ever permitted to be sold, yet the prices which rule in all of their establishments are moderate in the extreme. The firm gives employment to thirty-two persons and makes use of twenty-two delivery wagons.
Both members of the firm were born in Brockton, this state. Edmund F. Snow is a memer of the G. A. R., the royal Arcanum and other organizations. Both are highly respected citizens in the community and are greatly esteemed by all.
