Edwin Lee Metcalf United States Army 8 November 1925 – 12 November 1945 Edwin Lee Metcalf was born on November 8, 1925 in Boston. As a resident of Jamaica Plain, Edwin joined the United States Army on September 15, 1943 and began active duty two months later on November 30, 1943. Metcalf served as a Sergeant (Sgt.) with the 414st Bomber Squadron, 97th Bomber Group of the United States Army Air Forces. On November 12, 1945, Sgt. Metcalf was declared missing and presumed dead over Austria. For the heroism displayed in his service to our country, Sgt. Metcalf was awarded the Purple Heart and the Air Medal. Edwin was survived by his father Melville Metcalf and is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing in the Florence American Cemetery in Florence, Italy.

Sgt Edwin L. Metcalf graduated from the High School of Commerce in 1943 and entered the service in November.  He went overseas in October 1944.  His parents lived at 34 Evergreen Street, Jamaica Plain.
