Brian Patrick Collins was born on April 7, 1949 in Boston. Brian enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on January 8, 1968. Brian served as Private First Class in the 3rd Marine Division, 1st Battalion , 9th Marine, and the C Company. He was Killed in action due to Non-hostile reasons, he died September 12, 1968 in Yokohama, Japan as a result of peritonitis, septicemia and pneumonitis due to second degree burns to the body sustained while attempting to put out a fire on a truck, on August 16, 1968 in Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam. Brian was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal for the heroism he displayed in his service to our country. Brian was survived by his parents Alice and Timothy Collins residents of Boston.
Collins was formerly from Dorchester. He graduated from St. Ambrose Grammar School and from Walpole High School in Walpole. He also attended Boston Technical School and played baseball for the Thomas H. Crowley American Legion Post No. 104 of Walpole. Prior to enlisting in the Marine Corps, he was employed by the New England Telephone Co.
