4 Fairfax Street is another W. Whitney-Lewis-designed house which was built in 1889. Its first owner [should say One of its owners] was Charles Hight Conant, vice president of Curtis, Hatch and Conant, State Street insurance brokers. Adelaide M. Fraser, owner of the property, was Conant’s mother-in-law. Conant’s wife was Helen S. Conant. Conant’s draft registration card for World War I, gave his birth date as September 15, 1879, and gave his occupation as Custom House Broker and Foreign Freight Forwarders. He was vice president of Stone & Downer Co. at that time.
