The house of B. F. The firm is composed of B. F. and J. M. Duffy, broth ers. In July 1907, the brothers transferred their business interests to Dorchester and took possession of the Hancock Street premises which they still occupy. A large and choice stock of staple and fancy groceries is kept on sale, and everything in that department of trade is to be found in the store hi the greatest variety and of the highest quality, as the enormous patronage the firm enjoys abundantly evidences. The firm also deals iu all kinds of wines, liquors and bottled ales and beers. No bar is maintained in the establishment, but ale and beer can be obtained there on draught to be drunk outside the premises and the store proves a distinct convenience to those who like to drink beer fresh from the keg at home. The firm caters especially to the family trade and has built up a large business in that one direction since its coming to Dorchester.
Its trade extends over all parts of the district and is increasing rapidly as time goes on. Only the purest and most healthful of alcoholic products are sold, and all are guaranteed as to purity and quality and are made under the new pure food law. Wines and spirituous liquors are sold by the bottle and ale’s and beers in case lots or less, when desired. This firm has demonstrated to the complete satisfaction of the residents of Dorchester and its vicinity that the liquor business can he conducted on decent and orderly lines, if necessary, and it enjoys a high reputation in the neighborhood of the store.
Both of the Duffy brothers were born in the South Boston district of the city, are sons of James Duffy, a well-known and highly respected business man and resident of that district, who was identified as an importer and dealer in wines and liquors for the last 40 years, and have always lived in the municipality. They are both graduates of Georgetown University of Washington, D.C., and are highly respected and esteemed as most worthy citizens.
