Famous grower of beautiful flowers, 169 Boston Street, Dorchester

The name of E. B. Clapp has been indissolubly connected with everything which is best in the culture of beautiful flowers for the last quarter of a century, at the beginning of which he established his greenhouses at No. 169 Boston Street, Dorchester. The grounds on which his establishment is located cover about two acres, a portion of which is beautifully laid out, with palms, rubber plants, ferns and bedding or potted plants. There are six green­houses on the property under about 10,000 square feet of glass. Mr. Clapp is famed throughout this region as a grower of carnations and all kinds of potted plants, and his patronage is drawn from Dorchester, Roxbury, the Back Bay, Boston, Brookline, and other nearby places. He makes a notable specialty of cut flowers and decorating for weddings, festivals, balls, receptions, etc., furnishing original designs of great ‘beauty for such occasions and always winning for himself the highest com­mendation for his work. He keeps a complete assortment of palms, ferns, rubber plants, etc., in stock for decorative purposes, and is always ready to meet any demands which may be made for his services in that direction.  As a floriculturist, Mr. Clapp is regarded as without a superior in this part of the state and his services are in constant requisition, both summer and winter. His greenhouses are models of their kind and are equipped with all of the modern and most approved accessories for raising and caring for the beautiful and delicate plants which grow therein and which require constant trod tender nursing. He is a lover of flowers and takes a genuine delight in his work. He is always glad to show visitors over his premises and point out to them the special points of interest and the beauties of his establishment and all that it contains, which is one ofthe largest and most complete of its kind in this neighborhood.

Mr. Clapp was born about 57 year-ago in the house in which he now lives, adjoining his greenhouses and gardens. He is one of the active members of :Inc Massachusetts Horticultural society and has materially aided it in advancing the interests of the floral kingdom. He is also affiliated with the Knights of Honor and other societies. He is respected and esteemed by all of his fellow citizens.
