Emily A. Fifield (1840-1913), a prominent member of the Boston School Committee for 17 years, was born in Weymouth, Mass. A resident of Dorchester, she was the second woman ever elected to the Committee. During her term (1883-1902), she was instrumental in establishing manual training in the schools.
