Plumber and sanitary engineer, 186 Washington Street, Dorchester

John Holmes, the well-known plumber anti sanitary engineer, of No. 186 Wash­ington Street, Dorchester, established his business 12 years ago, in his present location.  He conducts a general plumb­ing business, making a specialty of the installation of systems of ventilation and drainage. Mr. Holmes is a recognized expert at his trade and is frequently called upon to pass au expert opinion upon and do some of the most difficult work of its kind in the district, for his reputation is such that he is credited with the ability to perform work of the most intricate and complex sort.   He does all kinds of general plumbing work with promptness and skill and is noted for the painstaking fidelity with which he lives up to the very letter of every contract which he undertakes to execute.  He employs a large force of skilled mechanics to assist him, never having less than eight on his staff and often may more, of the work to be done requires an addition to this staff.  We might here mention that Mr. Holmes is about to venture into the retail hardware field in addition to his resent business and will then extend his premises by opening the adjoining store and converting the two places into one large establishment that will undoubtedly fill a long felt want in the neighborhood.

Mr. Holmes was born in Scotland was educated I his native land.  He has lived in Dorchester for the last 2 years, opening his shop immediately upon coming here.  he is still a young man and is highly popular in all of the circles in which he moves.  As a plumber, he is considered to have no superior in these parts, and as a private citizen of the community, his affability and geniality have won for him scores of friends in all walks of life.
