John W. Howell opened his high class baking establishment at No. 10-12 Walnut Street, Neponset, Dorchester, three years ago, and the place is looked upon as one of the most useful in the neighborhood.  Mr. Howell bakes all kinds of breads, pies, roils, cakes, cookies, doughnuts, etc., which he sells over his own counter to the people who patronize his establishment, his customers embracing nearly all of the families in the locality. The bakery is a model of neatness anal is equipped with all of the modern appliances known to the modern baker’s art.  In preparing his food for the ovens, Mr. Howell makes use of only the highest grade and purest ingredients, with the result that the finished product is the very perfection of excellence and is much in demand by the people living in the locality. The establishment makes a specialty of brown bread and baked beans every Saturday evening, in accordance with the dictates of the old traditions of Boston, and these delicious commodities find a wide sale in the homes nearby and con­stitute the favorite Saturday evening re past. Home-made bread “the kind that mother used to make,” is one of the most popular products of the Howell bakery and is eagerly sought after at all times. Mr. Howell employs a force of skilled bakers, who thoroughly understand their trade and ably second his efforts in producing the highest type of examples of the baking art.

Mr. Howell is a native of this state and has made his home in Dorchester for a number of years.
