Kiley Hardware Co.
Thoroughly modern hardware store, 247 and 249 Blue Hill Avenue, Roxbury
One of the most notable examples of a modern and thoroughly up-to-date hardware store to be found in the city of Boston is that of the Kiley Hardware Company, at Nos. 247-249 Blue Hill Avenue, Roxbury. This business is owned and was established sixteen years ago by the Kiley Hardware Co.,, with John Kiley the head and E. J. Owen as his assistant. A feature of Mr. Kiley’s establishment is that he never changes his help, Mr. Owen being with him since a boy. Mr. Kiley deals in every variety of builders’ and family hardware, in paints, oils, varnishes, glass and putty, and in contractors’ supplies of all kinds. His store is the local headquarters for everything in those lines. The store is of double proportions and is equipped with elevators and automatic appliance for loading and unloading goods and is fitted with fixtures of mahogany and oak and is literally filled with a stock of goods which is unsurpassed in quality or variety in this part of the state. A wooden artition divides the salesroom space into two parts, one of which is reserved for the hardware stock and the other is for the paints, oils and varnish department. In each of these separate stores, the goods are well displayed. Anyone in need of any article in the hardware of paint lines is sure to go to the Kiley store for it, if he lives in Roxbury.
Mr. Kiley was born in New Brunswick, Canada, and has resided in Roxbury for many years. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and colonial Club and several other organizations. He is considered one of the most prominent among the businessmen of Roxbury and the leading representative of the hardware interests in the district. He is highly respected for his integrity and honor in all of his business relations and holds the esteem of all for his qualifications as a private ciizen of the community.
