Dealer in Real Estate and Negotiator of Loans, 349 Washington Street, Dorchester

Leonard P. Rounds, real estate broker and insurance agent, of No. 349 Washington Street, Dorchester, opened his offices in 1890.  He was then located at Upham’s Corner and remained there for seven years, removing to his present location in 1897.   His quarters are spacious and well appointed.  Mr. Rounds transacts a general real estate business, buying, selling, renting and exchanging property on commission, managing estates for others, collecting rents, etc.  He also examines titles for his clients.  He does a large business in loaning [sic] money on real estate mortgages, having a large number of clients who have cash to lend on real estate security, at low rates of interest.

As an insurance agent, he represents the American Fire Insurance Company, of Newark, N.J.; the Boston Fire Insurance Company, of Boston; the Metropolitan Plate Class Insurance Company of new York, and others.  He does a business within a radius of 15 miles of his office, having clients in all parts of this large territory.  An idea of the volume of business transacted by Mr. Rounds can be gained from the knowledge ff the fact that, at the present time, he has no less than 1000 pieces of property on his books, for sale or lease, including dwelling house, apartments, business structures, house lots and tracts of land.

Mr. Rounds was born in Conway, N.H., in 1843.  He came to Dorchester to live 23 years ago.  He is a member of the Odd Fellows and the Knights of Pythius.  He served in the Civil War from 1861 until 1865 and is a member of John A. Andrew post no. 15, G. A. B.  For the last six years, he has been a captain on Major Martin’s staff of Boston Fusiliers.  He is an influential and highly respected citizen of Dorchester.
