Alexander Stein

Artistic House and Fresco Painter, 329 Washington Street.

Alexander Stein, artistic house and fresco painter at 329 Washington Street, Dorchester, established his business in this district in 1893.  His admirable accomplishments I that line of work have gained for him a reputation which is second to no one in his line in this region.  Mr. Stein pays especial attention to the work of outside painting and warrants the the paint he puts on will not peel off or scale.  He also does paperhanging, tinting, graining, glazing, etc. He keeps in stock a rare selection of the newest designs and patterns in artistic wall papers.  He employs a staff of ten or more skilled men to assist him and is able to execute contracts at the shortest notice and promptly and well.  His patronage is drawn principally from Dorchester and Roxbury, but he is frequently called into the city proper to perform some particularly important piece of work.  Among the notable examples of his skill as a painter may be mentioned the Morton Street School, the Minot School, the Highland Methodist Episcopal Church, the Parkman Street Methodist Episcopal Church, engine house No. 20 and many other public and private buildings in this vicinity.

Mr. Stein was born in Scotland and was educated in his native land.  He has been a resident of Dorchester for the last 25 years.  He is a member of the Scotch Charitable Society, the Masonic fraternity and other organizations.
