The People’s Market
Fine grocery store of D. A. Murphy at 1377 Dorchester Avenue
The People’s Market, the fine grocery store of D.(Daniel) A. Murphy, at No. 1377 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, has long held a warm place in the hearts of the residents of this district, where it was established in 1896. The place seemed to meet a want really existing at the beginning and received an appreciative patronage at its inception, which has continued without abatement since then. So successful was the Dorchester Avenue store, that Mr. Murphy established a branch of it, in 1901, at 236 Bowdoin Street, Dorchester, and in 1902, opened still another store at Nos. 410-412 Neponset Avenue. All of the stores are exceedingly neat and attractive in appearance and are stocked with a superior line of goods, including everything in the line of staple and fancy groceries and provisions, fresh meats, fruits and vegetables, etc. Mr. Murphy makes a specialty of the Hatchett brand of canned goods and of Gorton’s cod fish cakes. He sells fresh fish in the season
