Roger Clap (1609-1691) came to Dorchester with the first settlers in 1630. His house, built in the early 17th century stood on Willow Court. Clap assumed command of Castle Island in 1662. His appointment as commander lasted until 1686 when he resigned the position, unwilling to lend his cooperation to the tyrannical schemes of Governor Andros. Roger Clap died at the age of 82 and was buried in the Old Burying Place in Boston.
