21533 Detail from 1858 Walling Map of Norfolk County, showing second Methodist Church

Thomas W. Tucker served a two-year pastorate in the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Dorchester, then spent a year in Medford, and retired in 1849 to Atlantic, Quincy. He gathered people in his house for religious serives, soon changing the place of meeting to Union Hall, near the Neponset depot. The Second Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in 1850, and the first house of worship was dedicated December 25, 1850. This building passed into the hands of the Unitarians through a division in 1858. The Society was reorganized in 1860 and dedicated a second church in 1861. The name was changed from the Second to Appleton Church in recognition of a gift from Mrs. Mary Appleton.

The Appleton Methodist Church combined with Trinity Congregational Church in 1927 to form the Community Church of Neponset.
