Large retail grocers, at nos. 112-116 Savin Hill Avenue

One of the largest and most important retail grocery and provision houses In the Dorchester district is that of W. (William) F. & Co., at Nos. 112-114-116 Savin Hill Avenue, Dorchester. This business is owned by Mr. Menslage, the ”Co.” being nominal. The business was established in 1884 in East Boston, and was transferred to Dorchester in 1892, and has, therefore, been located here for the last fifteen years. The store is un­usually spacious, being 50 by 60 feet in dimensions, having a frontage of 60 feet, occupying three street numbers. The stock is well displayed and is of a super­lative quality in all of its departments. The stock includes staple and fancy groceries, teas, coffees, spices, butter, cheese, eggs, flour, canned goods, table delicacies, cereals, fresh, salt and smoked meats, poultry, game, fruits, vegetables, etc., in great variety and of uniform excellence. The store is a popular institu­tion in the neighborhood of its location and is patronized by almost every family in the region. The prices which rule there are low, while the service is of the highest order.

Mr. Menslage was born in Germany and has lived in Boston since 1871. He is a member of the Free Masons and of the Boston Retail Grocers’ Association. He is considered one of the most popu­lar merchants in the vicinity of his store, his affability attracting many per­sons to his establishment who might not otherwise go there.
