Vincent Bernard United States Marine Corps 7 September 1945 – 21 September 1968 Vincent Bernard was born to Frank L. and Mary Bernard on September 7, 1945 in Nova Scotia, Canada. He moved to Dorchester, MA to live with his uncle John Bernard, who had been a chief of the Mi’kmaq Reserve. Vincent showed his love for our country when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on July 5, 1967. Lance Corporal (L/Cpl.) Bernard proudly served in Combined Action Program (CAP) 1-3-6, Casualty Assistance Calls Officer (CACO) 1-3, 1st Civil Affairs Group (CAG). The men of CAP 1-3-6 encountered an unknown number of enemy Viet Cong while on patrol on the outskirts of Phu Le village in Quang Ngai Province on September 21, 1968. L/Cpl. Bernard was killed by gunshot wounds to the head. For the heroism he displayed in his service to our country, L/Cpl. Bernard was awarded the Purple Heart.
