DOHERTY, Albert E. “Al”, of Holbrook, originally from Dorchester, unexpectedly, May 5, 2011, at the age of 85. Born in Boston, Al grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Dorchester High School. Following his graduation, he entered the United States Navy and served during WWII, where he was the recipient of several commendations including the WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon. Al worked as a switch repairman for the MBTA, retiring in 1985 after 40 years of service. He was also the Union Delegate for the Boston’s Carmen Union. An avid sports fan, Al enjoyed the Red Sox and Bruins and he was also honored with being the #1 Fan of his grandson’s team the Mohawks Bantam B’s Undefeated State Champions for 1997-1998. Al was also a member of the American Legion Walsh Post and the Dalton Post in Holbrook. Resident of Holbrook for the past 36 years. Al was the beloved husband of the late Rose I. (Guimond) Doherty. Loving father of Patty (Doherty) Fournier of Abington, Susan Murray and her husband Joseph of Holbrook and Jimmy Doherty and his fiancé Cathy Curry of Holbrook. Devoted brother of Patricia Powers of Chelmsford and the late Mary Sullivan, John Doherty, Kathryn Corcoran, Claire Maus and Francis Doherty. Dear “Papa” to Danielle Grafton, Jennifer McInnis, Kerry Parillo, Ricky Fournier, Katelyn Fournier, Erin Doherty, Kayla Doherty, Allison Doherty and the late Christopher Murray and “Papi” to Hunter, Christopher, Matthew, Natalie, Charlie and Weston. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 So. Franklin St., (Rte. 37) Holbrook, until 9:00 AM on Tuesday followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, Holbrook. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4:00 – 8:00 PM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made in memory of Al’s grandson, Christopher Murray c/o Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168. Al will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to have known him.
