Edward A. Huebener Brick Collection no. 27 Aunt Deborah Field House

No. 5168 Painting on brick of the Aunt Deborah Field House

Edward A. Huebener, a former Board member of the Dorchester Historical Society, was a collector of materials relating to Dorchester history including a very large collection of graphic materials, including prints and photographs, now owned by the Society. His very own contribution to this group of materials was the idea of taking a brick from a house that had been demolished and asking a local illustrator to paint a picture of the house upon the brick. The painted bricks may be viewed at the Dorchester Historical Society.

Nothing much is known about this house. The list of Huebener bricks says the house was on Washington Street, and the photograph reproduced below has the caption “near Codman Street.” A copy of this photograph published in the program for Dorchester Day in 1913 has a caption that says the house was at Lower Mills.

No. 2347 Photograph in the collection of the Dorchester Historical Society of the Aunt Deborah Field House.

No. 22071 The 1850 Eaton Map of Dorchester shows a W. Field house on the east side of Washington Street south of what is now Gallivan Boulevard formerly known as Codman Street.
