Elliott Francis is a Washington, D.C.-based television journalist
Elliott Francis brings more than 25 years of experience in news reporting to his role as co-anchor for ABC-7’s Weekend News.
An Emmy Award winning journalist, and former anchor and regional correspondent for The Fox News Channel, Elliott has sparked compelling and informative conversation with many top newsmakers and celebrities. The list includes Charlton Heston, former White House drug czar, Gen. Barry McCaffrey, Minister Louis Farrakhan, Massachusetts Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Tommy Lee Jones, former President Bill Clinton, comedian Alan King, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Al Pacino, Michael Jordan, author James Baldwin and silent screen star Buddy Rogers among others.
Skilled in computer technology, web site design and marketing for the Internet’s World Wide Web, Elliott is the founder and President of Inside Image LLC, a digital design and marketing firm for the web.
A talented voice over’ narrator, Elliott began his career in Boston as a radio announcer and later program director at WILD-AM. He was part of a team that placed the so-called daytime only’ radio outlet in the top 10 most listened to stations in the city for the first time in its 30-year history. Along the way, Elliott has worked as a television news director, producer, host, anchor, writer, and traffic reporter. He’s also acted in several regional and national television commercials. Ironically, he’s played the role of a television news reporter or anchor on more than a half dozen television shows including, The Practice, Once and Again and The Agency.
As anchor/reporter for WGBH-TV’s public affairs series, Say Brother, Elliott earned two New England Emmy Awards. The first, in 1988 for Outstanding Informational Programming for the presentation of Bobby McFerrin… Without Peer. The second, in 1990, for a half-hour documentary that tore open the veil of secrecy surrounding the questionable shooting of a 17-year old by Boston police called, What Happened to Donald Johnson?
It was Elliott who broke the story about comedian Eddie Murphy’s upcoming marriage back in 1992 during his tour as host of the nationally syndicated entertainment news magazine, Ebony/Jet Showcase. A well-kept secret at that time, Murphy shared it with Elliott even after refusing to talk about it with good friend and late night talk host Arsenio Hall.
He currently lives in Boyd, MD with his wife, Arnetia Walker and son Trevor.
