Geo. P. Brooks, Apothecary, 782 Dudley Street, Upham’s Corner, Boston.  We have heard a great deal of “Mind Healing,” “Christian Scientists,” “Cures without Medicine,” etc., within the past year or so, but as we have not noticed an unusual number of failures in the Drug business, it is to be presumed that the old-fashioned methods of treatment are not yet entirely superseded.  Some people may be able to convince themselves that as, philosophically speaking, there is no such thing as disease, they cannot be diseased in the least, and therefore have only to think themselves cured to be cure: but the average man cares more for facts than he does for names, and when he finds himself losing strength or showing other signs of illness, he prefers being made to feel like himself by the judicious use of medicines, rather than allowed to grow steadily worse on the theory that he has no business to feel ill at all.  Consequently Drug stores are as much a necessity as ever, and being a necessity and a great public convenience as well, we take pleasure in calling attention to tone of the best managed establishments of the kind with which we are acquainted that conducted by Mr. Geo. P. Brooks at No. 782 Dudley Street, Upham’s Corner.  the store is 25 by 50 feet, and is one of the handsomest in New England.  The floor is of French tiles, the woodwork of mahogany, and the elegant stained glass and French plate windows, the beautifully frescoed ceiling and the Tuft’s soda fountain, all combine to make a very attractive store.  One floor and a basement are occupied, and a skillfully selected stock of Drugs, Medicines, Chemicals, etc., is constantly carried, together with such Toilet Articles and Fancy Goods as are usually found in a first-class City Drug Store.  Mr. Books founded this undertaking in 1881, and has built up a large trade by close and conscientious attention to business.  He is a native of Salem, Mass., and is connected with the Royal Arcanum.  Employment is given to two efficient and polite assistants, and all orders are promptly filled, especial attention being paid to the compounding of physician’s prescriptions, only the best and purest ingredients being used, and the prices put a tt the lowest figures consistent with a reliable service.
