George W. Boynton was born in New Hampshire about 1809. He had a long career as an engraver in Boston. He specialized in engraving maps. He was the principal in G. W. Boynton & Co. He was apparently also an inventor, responsible for the invention of a diving bell. He died in Dorchester, Massachusetts, on 20 June 1884.
