John H. Burt (1827-1907), in partnership with his brother George L. Burt, founded a building and contracting concern that was one of the leading purveyors of lumber for Boston. Burt built speculative houses on Oakland Street with surplus lumber. He lived in Milton, where he served as a member of the board of selectmen for many years. His brother lived in Mattapan and served as a state representative and senator from 1884 to 1885.
