No. 3874 Memorial to Monsignor John J. O’Donnell

The intersection of Neponset Avenue and Freeport Street was designated as a Hero Square for Monsignor John J. O’Donnell.

John J. O’Donnell was born in Medway on May 16, 1873.  He graduated from St. John;s Seminary in Brighton, from which he graduated.  He was ordained December 16, 1898.  In September 1925, he was appointed pastor of St. Ann’s Church, Neponset. He died on December 11, 1945.

There is a stone with a memorial plaque at the intersection.

Rt. Rev. John J. O’Donnell Memorial Stone.

Installed in memory of Rt. Rev. John J. O’Donnell, pastor of St. Ann’s Parish, 1925-1945. Located in the small park at the intersection of Neponset Avenue and Freeportt Street opposite St. Ann’s Church. The Redberry Council Memorial Stone is also located in this park.
