Kenneth Russell Joyner United States Marine Corps 17 September 1948 – 22 March 1968 Kenneth Russell Joyner was born on September 17, 1948 in Boston. As a resident of Dorchester, Kenneth joined the United States Marine Corps on November 5, 1967 and began active duty that same day. Kenneth served as Private First Class with the 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines and Company I. He was killed in action on March 22, 1968 in Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam due to a fragmentation wound to the head from a mortar round while on patrol. For the heroism displayed in his service to our country, Kenneth was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Kenneth was survived by his mother Mrs. Ethel R. Winbush and his grandmother Amanda Joyner.

Joyner lived at 46 Warner Street. He graduated from Dorchester High School where he starred in football.  He enlisted in the Marines in June 1967.
