The intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Glenway Street was designated a Hero Square for Kermit I. Rose in 1948 or 1949.

Pvt Kermit A. Rose lived at 15 Charlotte Street. He was born in Dorchester, graduated from Dorchester High School and studied at Boston College and the University of Miami. He was inducted into the Army in June 1944 and was killed in the Battle of the Bulge, January 15, 1945.
