Meetinghouse Bank

No. 16107 Matchbook cover from Meeting House Hill Co-operative Bank.

The Meeting House Hill Cooperative Bank, later Meetinghouse bank, was incorporated in 1914 and opened in 1914 at 235 Bowdoin Street. William J. Fitzgerald was the president and John H. Dorsey the treasurer.

For a time, it was located at 240 Bowdoin Street.

In 1955, Meeting House Hill Bank opened a new building at 200 Bowdoin Street.  The colonial-style structure offered several innovations in banking comfort and service.  Contour-shaped tellers’ windows, and original idea by Co. Thomas L. O’Keefe, bank treasurer, afford afforded almost complete privacy.  Other outstanding features included air conditioning, sound-proofing, softly colored ceiling lights, large parking space with separate entrance. See The Boston Globe, June 29, 1855.

Meetinghouse Bank merged into East Boston Savings Bank, 2017.
