Reverend Lemuel Capen, 1788-1858

Reverend Luemeul Capen (John Edward, Samuel, John, Bernard) was born in Dorchester November 25, 1788, and died in South Boston August 29, 1858.  He married Mary Ann Hunting on Octber 11, 1815.  Mary was born October 31, 1790, and died November 7, 1884.  She was the daughter of Asa and Abigail Hunting or Roxbury.

Lemuel was a preacher and school teacher, a fluent speaker and writer.  He was a graduate of Harvard College in 1810 and attended thirty-five commencements, thirty-three in succession.  He was a minister at Sterling, Massachusetts from 1815 to 1819.  He was later installed pastor of the Hawes’ Place First Congregational Society in South Boston on October 31, 1827.  He served until 1839.  He served as minister at large in Baltimore.
