Walter William McGinn United States Navy 27 December 1913 – 12 September 1968 Walter William McGinn was born on December 27, 1913 in Boston MA. As a resident of Mattapan, he showed his love for our country when Walter joined the United States Navy on September 13, 1950 and began active duty that same day. Walter served as Chief Petty Officer in the 3rd NC Brigade, NMCB 1, and Company D. He was KIA on September 12, 1968 one and a half miles southeast of Marble Mountains, Danang, South Vietnam when the vehicle he was in struck a landmine. For the heroism displayed in his service to our country, Walter was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Walter was survived by his wife Winifred Margaret McGinn, and his sons Francis and Barry McGinn residents of Mattapan.

McGinn was well known in Boston Park League sports.  He coached many champion Navy teams.  McGinn saw action in World War II as an Army Ranger and in the Navy during the Korean conflict.
