August Gonsalves United States Army 12 December 1946 – 5 June 1968 August Gonsalves was born on December 12, 1946 in Boston. As a resident of Dorchester, August enlisted into the United States Army on December 10, 1967. During his enlistment, he reached the rank of Sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division, the 2nd Squadron, the 17th Cavalry, and the Troop B. August went missing and the finding of his death was on June 5, 1968 in Vietnam. He is buried at the Mt Hope Cemetery, Mattapan, Massachusetts. August was awarded The National Defense Service Medal, The Combat Infantryman Badge, The Purple Heart, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, and The Vietnam Service Medal.

Gonsalves was born in New Bedford and moved to Boston at an early age.
