Douglas Allen Young Square

The intersection at Christopher Street and Dorchester Avenue was designated as a hero square for Douglas A. Young, Lance Corporal for his service in the Vietnam War.

Lance Corporal, Douglas Allen Young, 18, of 10 Rosedale Street, Dorchester, was one of fifteen children born to Mr. & Mrs. Harold E. Young.  Douglas was killed in Vietnam, February 18, 1968.  He went to Vietnam in August 1967 and was wounded on Christmas Day, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart.  He returnd to duty with the 5th Marines.  He entered the Marines in 1966 and served at Camp Pendleton and in Hawaii before going to Vietnam.
