United States Army 19 November 1940 – 12 March 1945 Joseph A. Donovan was born to Elizabeth M. and Joseph P. Donovan on November 16, 1912 in Boston, MA. He grew up in Dorchester attending Dorchester High School, graduating in 1930. Joseph was inducted into the United Stated Army on November 19, 1940. Corporal (Cpl) Donovan proudly served our country with the 103th Infantry 43rd Division. He was in the Luson area of the Philippines Island on March 12, 1945 when he was killed in action. Cpl. Donovan was awarded the Purple Heart for the heroism he demonstrated while protecting our country. He was survived by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Donovan of Dorchester, MA.

Donovan lived at 126 Grampian Way.  He was a champion skier and made many trips to Quebec with the Fr. John B. Devalles Winter carnivals.
