Martin Francis Foley United States Marine Corps 15 December 1949 – 1 May 1969 Martin Francis Foley was born on December 15, 1949 in Boston. Martin enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on February 1, 1967 and began active duty that same day. Martin served as Lance Corporal with the 3rd Marine Division, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines, and Company D. He was killed in action in South Vietnam, Quang Tri province on May 1, 1969 as a result of a fatal gunshot wound from a hostile small arms fire while on patrol. For the heroism displayed in his service to our country, Martin was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Martin was survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Francis X. Foley who are residents of Boston.
