Michael Francis Austin United States Army 29 March 1949 – 18 February 1968 Michael Francis Austin was born on March 29, 1979 in Crowley, Louisiana. As a resident of Dorchester MA he showed his love for this country when he was enlisted into the United States Army on August 21, 1967 and began active duty that same day. Michael served as Corporal with the 1st Aviation Brigade, 13th Aviation Battalion, 164th Aviation Group, and the 175th Aviation Company. He was KIA in South Vietnam, Vinh Long province on February 18, 1968 from metal fragment wounds received while on an aircraft when the aircraft came under hostile action from a artillery rocket mortar. For the heroism displayed in his service to our country, Michael was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Michael was survived by his wife Mrs. Antoinette Austin a resident of Dorchester.

Austin lived at 22 Mallon Road.  He enlisted in he Army in August 1967.  Pfc Michael F. Austin was 19 years old when he died on February 18, 1968. He was killed in action in Vietnam, whil serving in the Vinh Long sector.    An article from November 14, 1983 in The Boston Glove said he was a CPL.

The city’s website has two squares named for Austin.  The other one is Bowdoin Street at Mallon Road.  The marker is at Edison Green North.
