Michael J. Scalia Square

The intersection of Ashland Street, Beach Street and Park Street was designated a Hero Square in 1921 for Michael Scalia.

Michael J. Scalia lived at 7 Everett Street.  He was 24 when he was killed in action in 1918.  He was one of the draftees from Warrd 18, Fields Corner. He graduated from the Washington Grammar School and was in the fruit business with his father before being drafted.  He went overseas in 1917 from a Georgia Camp.
