Waverie H. Buchanan United States Marine Corps 3 January 1948 – 17 March 1967 Waverie Hugh Buchanan was born on January 3, 1948 to Clement H. and Eulalee Buchanan in Kingston, Jamaica. Once he moved to the United States he resided on Columbia Rd. in Dorchester, MA. Waverie demonstrated his love for our country when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on November 2, 1965. Lance Corporal (L/Cpl.) Buchanan proudly served in the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. On March 17, 1967 the battalion came under fire near the Gio Do village in Quang Tri, Vietnam. The marines engaged the enemy and requested reinforcements. When help arrived the units were able to force the enemy to withdraw as darkness fell. L/Cpl. Buchanan was killed by a gunshot wound to the back of the head. For his heroism in service to our country L/Cpl. Buchanan was awarded the Purple Heart. His body is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Mattapan, MA. Waverie was survived by his parents.

Buchanan was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He lived at 179 Columbia Road.  He graduated from Lewis High School, and he attended Boston Trade.
