William F. O’Brien Square

The intersection of Columbia Road and Quincy Street was designated a Hero Square for William F. O’Brien in 1940.

O’Brien was a Dorhester postal employee and former amateur athlete, who died March 25, 1939, from wounds suffered in the war (World War I).  He served 17 months overseas and was decorated by three governments for valor.  He was president of the 55th Artillery Veterans’ Association.
